Cofeseg says that it will be a progressive task and not without effort, but that it will certainly mark a milestone in the evolution of natural stone extraction systems. «The arrival of this new technology will not be assumed overnight. Logically, it will be implemented gradually, in the medium and long term. This is due to many factors such as, for example, the need for a change of mentality on the part of quarry owners, or the reluctance to change of many managers who have been working with the traditional system for years,” says Sergio Chaparro, manager of Cofeseg, a company that has been committed to this transformation from the beginning. In addition, the implementation of Double Disc machines implies a recycling of the existing machinery park in a quarry, “something that not everyone is willing to carry out quickly. In any case, what has been proven is that the work system with Double Disc machines allows to improve productivity by reducing and optimizing the resources of the exploitation,” he emphasizes.

A preliminary study to determine the needs of each operation will be very important for quarrymen in order to plan an appropriate and gradual transition. “Currently, not all quarries are prepared for this type of process. To do this, it is necessary to know what the objectives of each one are and the short and medium term extraction potential. In this way, it will be possible to adapt the new work system, raise awareness among staff and, little by little, replace the existing machines with double-disc machines,” says Andrea Serrai, geologist and technical manager of Cofeseg.

“It is an exciting challenge, as happened with the implementation of diamond wire cutting, more than 20 years ago. At that time, there were bold entrepreneurs who quickly embraced the new trends, while others showed more reservations and skepticism, something that will possibly happen with double-disc machines,” concludes Andrea Serrai.

Participation as an exhibitor at the Stone Ibérica fair in Portugal 2023 has been another milestone in the promotion of Cofeseg’s Econetic machine line. During this year’s exhibition, the launch of the new DBM double-disc machine has aroused great interest among attendees.

This innovation applied to stone cutting will represent an important advance in the way of approaching quarry exploitation. The Econetic double-disc is designed to make depth cuts between 1.40 and 2 metres, allowing a wide range of dimensions, much more adaptable to each production need. “Given such a novelty, many of our clients are interested in trying the DBM and starting to make a difference compared to competitors,” says Sergio Chaparro, Cofeseg manager to Focus Piedra.

As a result of the negotiations initiated during the event, Cofeseg estimates that before the end of 2023, some units of this new model will be installed in Spain and Portugal. It will be the starting point to show, in the Iberian market, the advantages that this type of machinery has in terms of productivity, efficiency and energy savings.

The concept of sustainable Econetic machinery, which saves up to 30% of energy consumption, began three years ago, with the launch of the first diamond wire machine with Permanent Magnet Technology. A turning point in the quarry machinery industry, which, to this day, continues to be a benchmark for efficiency compared to other machines in the sector.

The quality of the products used in the machine, the innovation applied from the vision of satisfying the needs of customers, an in-house technical service with spare parts available in Spain, delivered within 24/48 hours, added to the energy savings of up to 30%, make the Econetic a reference solution for today’s quarries.

In addition to its success in the Spanish and Portuguese, Angolan and Zimbabwean markets, the French market was also added, with the purchase of two 100 hp Econetic machines by Polycor France.
